Vajra Langhe Rosso Blend 2022

The Vajra family is highly regarded in the wine community for their hand-crafted Piedmontese wines including the standards; Dolcetto, Barbera, Barolo and Nebbiolo among others. But as much as we love the 'big boys' they produce, we have a special fondness for their more reasonably priced everyday blend, the Langhe Rosso.

 

The 2018 vintage blends Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera with deft touches of Albarossa, Freisa and Pinot Nero to add verve and complexity. In the glass, transparent cherry skin coloration. On the nose, vibrant aromas of plums, black currants, black tea, and tobacco. The delicate appearance is belied by a brisk and energetic core of chewy cherry, black currant and red raspberry that gives way to a long finish marked by menthol, tobacco, sassafras and leafy underbrush. This is a wine to buy by the case. It pairs remarkably with butter and sage dressed pasta, grilled burgers, lamb, sausages, pizza - anything that calls for a robust, versatile red.
